Open Trail Series
GR S939 591 Instructions from Bunclody. At the crossroads in the centre of Bunclody take the R476 towards Carnew ( right turn if coming from Enniscorthy/Ferns direction on N80, left turn if coming from Carlow/Blessington on N80). After about half a mile the main road swings left but take the minor road straight on up the hill. It will be signposted from here. The start is about 2 miles up this road. To get to Bunclody from Dublin take the N11 to Ferns then branch off at the roundabout in Ferns for Bunclody ( or if you prefer a better road continue on the N11 a few miles south of Ferns and turn right at the next roundabout onto the N80). Alternatively you can come down the N81 through Blessington, Tullow and turn left when you meet the N80

Part of the Slaney Olympic Open Trail Series arranged by Jane and Graham Porter.
This is a new and fun series of three races for spring 2009 offering running on undulating forest tracks with some panoramic views.
In May a 7 miler on Gibbet Hill east of Bunclody completes the series. This will have longer but still gradual climbs on runnable tracks.
