| John O'Neill | Feb 16, 2:16PM | Hi all, I was wondering, do you have to be a member of a club to take part in the races? |
| niamh o ceallaigh | Feb 16, 3:02PM | Hi John, You do not have to be a member of any club to take part in IMRA racees. When you do your first race, you will be required to become a member of IMRA. This costs 10 Euro for the year. Niamh |
| Brendan Hogan | Feb 18, 1:37PM | Is it possible just to arrive at any event? Thinking of showing up at the Maulin Event on 6th March Thanks, Brendan |
| Brendan Hogan | Feb 18, 1:37PM | Is it possible just to arrive at any event? Thinking of showing up at the Maulin Event on 6th March. Would this be considered a good introductory race in terms of distance and difficulty? (and location, given I live in Enniskerry..!) Thanks, Brendan |
| Mick Hanney | Feb 18, 1:46PM | Brendan, Just show up and pay for the annual reg (tenner), pay your race fee (7) and you are good to go. Maulin is not an easy race but don't let that put you off. Take it at your own pace. These races are for all ages and abilities. Regards, Mick |
| Brendan Hogan | Feb 18, 2:07PM | Mick, Thanks for the reply and confidence. I just noticed a race on this weekend and will probably show up there (even though I know it's more difficult) - Do people run the entire lenghts of these or is walks during the steep bits common/acceptable? Just dont want to be still out runnig/walking/crawling while everyone eklse is finished..! Sorry if these questions seem stupid, but was always thought that the only stupid question is the one not asked..!! Thanks, B |
| Gavan Doherty | Feb 18, 2:27PM | Hi Brendan, Tibradden's a good first race for your level of fitness. The field at a hill race is very comparable to a BHAA race, both in terms of standard & pace. If you finish mid-pack in a BHAA race you'll be mid-pack in a hill race. Similar for the front end, while the tail end of an IMRA field might be even slower than a BHAA race! You won't end up on your own, that's for sure. I'd say Tibradden's easier than Maulin - the climb up Maulin is all in one dose, while Tibradden has a bit less and is more gradual. See you saturday. |
| Paul Nolan | Feb 19, 4:46PM | Brendan There's nothing wrong with walking in hill races, nearly everybody does it at some point. Start easy for the the first few hundred metres and you might surprise yourself with how far you can go before feeling the urge to break into a walk. Start too hard and there's only pain... |
