European Masters May 16 Barcelona

Gerry Brady Mar 5, 7:28PM The entry form and a note from the Irish manager Ed McEntee (Sportsworld) are available on the IMRA event page for the European Masters http://www.imra.ie/events/view/id/782/

Note the closing date for sending completed entries to Ed is the 20th March as he has to forward the verified entries to the European body by the end of March.

In 2008 Aisling Coppinger (Clonliffe) and Mags Greenan (Clonliffe) won individual gold medals in this event and Irish teams won place medals. For 2010 the Irish contingent looks to be even stronger and hopefully there will be medal winning teams and individuals in many of the age classes including yours! Denise Ryan (Raheny) could run well in Barcelona. Barry Minnock (Rathfarnham) looks set to make a return to the hills and with Peter O'Farrell (Rathfarnham) and Neil Carty (North Belfast) in pursuit, the men could be making a comeback.
Gerry Brady Mar 23, 11:00PM Decision time. Please email Ed McEntee by return if you are interested as closing date is fast approaching. See event details and Ed's contact details on the IMRA page. The entry form can also be downloaded from there http://www.imra.ie/events/view/id/782/

Also we are currently sorting out flight options, and Ed is looking at accommodation.
Diarmuid O'Colmain Mar 24, 3:46PM Probably of lttle or no importance but the IMRA event information refers to age categories in 10 year intervals (seems like a disconnect but maybe I am misunderstanding)

"Teams (3 to score in 10 year age groups): 35+40, 45+50, 55+60, 65+"

but the actual organizer's event information refers to age categories in 5 year increments
MEN
M-35 35 to 39
M-40 40 to 44
M-45 45 to 49
M-50 50 to 54
M-55 55 to 59
M-60 60 to 64
M-65 65 to 69
M-70 70 to 74
M-75 75 and more
WOMEN
W-35 35 to 39
W-40 40 to 44
W-45 45 to 49
W-50 50 to 54
W-55 55 to 59
W-60 60 to 64
W-65 65 to 69
W-70 70 to 74
W-75 75 and more

I don't mean to be any way disparaging of what I am sure will be an excellent event, but at first sight the course profile would seem rather mild for a mountain race with only 200m climb. But I suppose Ould lads like Peter O'Farrell and Gerry Brady need a gentle race!!! (joke!)
Gerry Brady Mar 24, 11:10PM On the profile I counted the 200m from the profile on the Program link on the organiser's website http://www.cerdanyolaesports.cat/europeu/circuit.asp if anyone has time to roughly check it... There is a mysterious text reference to an altitude max of 400m whereas the profile graph only goes to 200m? The race is under European Athletics rather than WMRA.

On age groups, further down said page http://www.cerdanyolaesports.cat/europeu/reglament.asp there is a reference to

TEAM SCORING
The first three runners per nation in the same 10 year age group as follows build up a team by time scoring
M—W 35+40
M—W 45+50
M—W 55+60
M—W 65+70

Hence five years categories in the individual race but for team results the 35-39 and 40-44 age groups are combined etc.

Yes current senior internationals Peter O'Farrell, Barry Minnock, Donna Mahon, Mags Greenan and Helen White are all thinking of travelling as well as a strong NIMRA contingent so if you like medals with your apres-race drinks ...
Gerry Brady Mar 31, 10:49PM Known entries to-date include those below. Teams comprise ten years age groups 35-44, etc. So at this stage we have three very strong Irish teams in the W35-44, M35-44, and W45-54 as well as strong contenders for individual medals. Entries are being processed for sending to organisers on Tuesday 6th April.

W35} Donna Mahon, Aisling Coppinger

M40} Leo Murray, Ed McEntee

W45} Anne Sandford, Helen White, Tish McCann
