Route Description:
REGISTRATION: 10am to 10.45am

Following registration at Millstreet, a bus will transfer you to the race start.Bus leaves Millstreet at 11am. The race follows the waymarked trail and will be clearly marked throughout. There will be no marshals out on the route.

Summary of route: The race starts, at the mini commercial park Ballymakeera. A small section on road (400m), brings you to a style, climbing into the field, no need for panic at the style or trying to elbow wrestle, it will be a long half !! Enjoy these tight runs through field edges and along ditches with nice views. Climbing all the time you will run through these fields and then have a slight drop before climbing up through a last field to the forestry. Then starts a wet, boggy fire break. *** Take care on this section as there are some timber boards which we strongly advise you DO NOT run on, and also some slick rocks , defo to be avoided !!!! This section followed by a straight fireroad with gorgeous views of the Mullaghanish mast, and you'll settle into a rythm that should carry you through the next few miles. You will cross a small road here and the metal signs (as well as following the yellow man) are for North West Cork Trail....follow this. After a short section of single track (extremely muddy as of recce on Jan 26th), a stile takes you onto the main fire road heading up and through the windfarms. This is a quick 6km before you are directed through a boggy section that will certainly slow you down. *** Here you are running with a fence on your left on grassy tussocks with a forestry on your right, after approx 800-1km take note of the yellow arrows pointing you diagonally right , be sure to follow these and locate the next marker (yellow man) and do not follow the fence line.Thereafter, a long, single track down alongside Curracahill, where you will get your first views of Millstreet and Claragh Mnt. A steep section of tarred road (downhill) before you a directed right onto the slippery fields leading up to Claragh. The single track continues until you are turned up into the gloomy forest surrounding Claragh and onto a T-junction. You will continue along the main waymarked route into Millstreet itself and the finish line at the Sli Gaeltacht Muscrai map board. Sandwiches, tea and coffee at the finish. You will also get your race mug. Each race in the Half Marathon Series will have its own mug, collect the lot !!!

We hope you'll hang around and welcome/congratulate the Ultra runners as they come in afterwards.

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
