Scalp - Preliminary Report by Douglas Barry
Vincent O'Sullivan of UCD did what he had been threatening to do ever since he took up mountain running this year: he won his first race. The UCD man prevented Hugh McLindon from adding to his wins on the Blue Light and Bray Head by fending off the 3ROC man on a shortened Scalp race route. Newcomer John Eves took third from John McEnri and the battling vets Bob Lawlor and Gerry Brady.
Nicky Cinnamond won the women's race from Joan Flanagan and Roisin McDonnell with Maura Ni Chearbhaill, Dara Lalor, and Bernie White filling the top six. The shortened course was forced on the organisers by the volume of runners. Amazingly, despite the live Irish soccer match on TV, over 140 runners turned out in the hope that their rivals in the Arup Leinster League race might be watching the match. Most weren't.
