Tibradden Winter League race - Preliminary report by Douglas Barry
Paul Nolan easily won the final race of the 2003 Winter League in the absence of the recently crowned champion Eoin Keith. His only opposition on the day, Setanta team mates Paul Mahon and Gerry Lalor, scrapped among themselves before Paul took second 33 seconds of Gerry. Justin was first vet edging out Adrian Tucker by only 9 seconds while The O'Hara Machine steamrollered all in the M50 class and made the top ten overall to boot. Sean Lambe also continued his winning ways in the M60 section, Mike Gomm in the M70s, while Sean Doran was first junior and first overall in a poorly attended short course.
Emma Sokell was best of the women in a race which missed the presence of the recently crowned champion Beth McCluskey, but saw the return of the talented former junior international Deirdre Hopkins. And indeed it was the Lough Ree runner who edged out the improving Crusader Dara Lalor and DSD's Jane Cahill in a close battle for second position. Irene Walsh took the F40 vets category ahead of Mary O'Connell, while Fingal's Jean O'Neill took the F50 win ahead of Caitlin Bent and Ger Power. Siobhan Murphy won the junior women's race over the shorter course.
The Winter League prizegiving and a fundraising quiz will be held on the 26th February 2003 in the RTE Social Club at 8.00pm. Be there!!
