Dublin Mountain Way Attempt

I did the DMW today. Shankill to Tallaght. Added in Massey and Hell Fire. This takes the distance to about 53Km I think.

I followed the yellow man all the way. There is one junction in Massey woods that is a bit confusing. Road sections from Scalp up to Jonny Foxes and from Sally Gap down to the finish are tough on the legs.

My time: 4.22hrs

As I mentioned, not my specialist area ! But still a time for people to go beat. If you do intend on going for it, let me know and I'll go through the exact route with you.

Think I'll do an out and back next time ;-)

I've done Shankill --> Tibradden already. So next I want to do start from Tibradden and continue on.

Regarding Massy's & Hellfire - looking at the map an anti clockwise (Massy's first) seems to be the way to go. Is that what you did?

John

So coming from Cruagh, before the carpark, the trail peels off to the left and goes through the tree's on the sleeper track. This brings you out onto the road, where you cross over to masseys, its the hair-pin before you head up to sally gap.

Down through massey along the river until you come to the a set of signs by the main bridge. This is the confusing part as the signs point straight (towards hell fire) and right (towards Rockbrook). I went straight across the bridge which brings you out onto military rd.

From there, you enter Hell fire carpark and follow the yellow man. The route takes you up the main firetrail and then brings you anti-clockwise around hell fire. You double back then and come back to the car park.

Then its back into massey, the same way you came, and back up towards Cruagh. Out onto the rd, you join back up with the main route and head towards the featherbeds.

Hope that makes sense, if you need any more direction, get me on murray.barry(at)gmail.com
