Paul MahonApr 17 2017, 6:29pmSetanta Orienteering club are hosting the 20th Rogaine Ireland event in the Wicklow Mountains this June

Event Info is HERE:
http://setantaorienteers.org/events/rogaine-ireland-2017/

The 24 hr event is for teams of 2 to 5 max
The 6 hr event can be done as solo or with team of 2 to 5 max

It is a great chance to get rightly off the beaten track in Wicklow and a fair few folk use the event to train and practice their navigation for long distance team AR events and it the obvious next step up from the popular Nav Challenge IMRA Series

Entry fee per person:
24hr €35 (€45 after 31st May)
6hr €25 (€32 after 31st May)
Entries before 15th June include a 20th commemorative technical top

24hr will commence at 2pm Sat 24th June
6hr will commence at 8am Sun 25th June
Both finish at 2pm Sunday 25th June

I'll be joint planner and we will be using the East West Map for Lugnaquilla & Glendalough

The 24 hour is a tough enough event if you go at it hard and try to keep going for the duration especially if the weather is challenging but once you have a decent level of navigational ability it is well recommended.

Some bring tent/ bivy and camp out, some come back to base at night where you can camp and get food and others keep trucking

If unsure of your navigational abilities especially at night then please do not enter the 24 hour event.

It is essentially a score event with the challenge to pick up as many points / controls as possible with route choice left up to yourself once you have plotted the controls.
Typically there are ~40 controls for 24 hour event and 10 -> 15 controls for the 6 hour event.
Grid reference control descriptions are given out at the start of the event and you plot and plan your course in race time

GPS's or other such navigational aids, food drops, organised outside support, etc are not permitted

The after event BBQ is legendary :-)

The planning is finished, and the controls are being placed, all 47 of them! The weather is set fair. It's a great way to spend a day in the hills!

The event base is near Wicklow Gap and the EastWest Lugnaquille & Glendalough map is being used.

Veteran teams filled 4 of the top 5 and 9 of the top 11 positions in the 24 hour competition
