Michael MannionJan 16 2019, 10:03pmHi,
I'm looking for some advice on buying a backpack for ultra. Any advice welcome.
Graham ChampJan 16 2019, 10:15pmI have literally just finished watching a review of several backpacks on youtube that might be helpful.

The first decision is what size you want?

For the majority of ULTRAs I do the Inov8 4 litre running vest is more than big enough.

But if your looking at longer races, winter conditions, Wicklow Round type stuff etc the 4 litre will hardly be big enough.

That's why I have a couple different sizes
Michael MannionJan 17 2019, 4:25pmThanks John, I was looking at the Salomon Skin Pro 10 Set, too much you think?
John J BarryJan 17 2019, 4:34pmI was thinking Decathlon purely based on price...

Michael MannionJan 17 2019, 10:41pmHave you used the Decathlon backpack?
John J BarryJan 18 2019, 9:32amI have not, but for that price the smaller one might be worth a try. I myself got the small Inov-8 running vest a good few years ago and still perfect now.

I got a larger "ultimate direction by scott jurek " vest two years ago for some "all day" events.

It is absolutely brilliant. I'll be using that tonight for Ballyhoura midnight Marathon challenge.

NOTE: The above size is small. Seems there is an updated version of the pack available. So this one may not be to common now....
Michael MannionJan 18 2019, 9:50amThanks for the advice John and best of luck later.
Gordon PlaceJan 18 2019, 11:13amThe inov 8 racepacks seem extremely small sizing. I'm usually medium and have a M/L let out to the last. Couldn't even get into the S/M.
They seem to size S/M and M/L, not small, medium and large. So I'd recommend going for M/L if undecided and ordering online.
