Laptop Operator Training

AuthorDateMessage
Conor O'FarrellMay 15 2019, 3:24pmHi All

We are holding a training session for Laptop Operators on Tuesday 28th of May, venue TBC. This will included setting up the new Chip Timing System.
Items will include:
-laptop software
-registering timing chips
-setup of the timing mat
-monitoring results
-final results and categories

This will mark a departure from the old MS access system, so anyone planning on becoming a laptop operator for the 2019 Leinster League races should put their names down. Initially accepting 10-12 people for this training.

A few people have already expressed an interest and have been added to the list based on their upcoming volunteering.

Conor O'FarrellMay 15 2019, 4:20pmHi Niamh

We will look to getting something done for the South East in a few weeks, once we have a few races under our belts. Maybe after the Mount Leinster Race if we can get a venue?

Conor O'FarrellMay 16 2019, 11:15amHi All

Thanks for your interest. It's worth putting your name down for a Leinster League race as Laptop Operator, as we have non in for any of the races from June.

I'm going to cap this at 12 for the moment until I get the venue finalised and I know how many we can accommodate. Also as it will be very hands-on, the more people there are, the longer it will take.

Paul GrantMay 23 2019, 4:21pmThanks Conor, any plans for another training session? I'm down for laptop duties on Wed Jul 17 at the "Djouce -The Ayling Abyss" run so it'd be great if I got some training before then for everyone's sake!

I'll add you to the list. I've had a drop-out, so you're good to join. Can you drop me an email so I have your details please?

Thanks

Pádraig DoyleMay 29 2019, 8:34amThanks for putting on the training session yesterday lads. Fair play Jason... some amount of work I'm guessing, in setting up the software.

Shane O'MalleyMay 29 2019, 9:17amThanks for the training last night. Great work put in.

Quick suggestion about the issue of overcharging the controller. Would it be wise to put in a timer plug into the kit so that you could set it to run for x amount of hours. As we are getting used to the system it is inevitable that mistakes will be made and hate for the equipment to be damaged just before a race by forgetting to unplug it at the right time.

Something like https://www.woodies.ie/diy-building-materials/electrical/plugs-adaptors-timers/masterplug-24-hour-mechanical-timer-1098781
Jeff SwordsMay 29 2019, 10:25amYeah, great job done by Jason, and anyone else who may have had a hand in.
Stuart ScottMay 29 2019, 5:01pmThanks to Jason, Conor and Lillian for hosting the session last night. It was well worth attending.

Most of all, huge thanks is due to Jason. He's put a massive amount of work into the new system, more than any of us will ever know. A few teething issues will undoubtably appear over the next few weeks but on the whole, the system is going to be a major improvement. Well done Jason!
