Jarlath HynesMay 6 2025, 2:28pmWe'll have the exact route for the next race of the South East League finalised later this week - but it will be an anti-clockwise loop from the carpark at the entrance via forest trails and open mountain to Crotty's Lake and back to finish at the visitors 'hut'.
It's a lovely location & there is camping available, if anyone fancies staying over on Fri or Sat night.
Thanks to Bernard, the landowner, for giving us access to this fantastic amenity.

A few more volunteers would be great - running or non-running.

And we still need a First Aid officer for the race to go ahead. Anyone?
Jarlath HynesMay 13 2025, 9:32pmRoute map uploaded to Event details for the first IMRA race at Crotty's Lake.

There's a nice mix of forest trails, a challenging climb up to the glacial lake, time for a brief glance up to the Ass's Ears before a relatively technical descent back down to rejoin main trail.

This race is ideal for those new to IMRA races, but runners with decent grip are recommended.

Another couple of marshals for the course would be great, if anyone needs to get a volunteering stint done,
Jarlath HynesMay 18 2025, 12:00pmEntry opens on Monday morning for the first IMRA race at this location, just a short spin from Waterford city, Carrick-on-Suir, Clonmel, Cahir.

It's midway through the Southeast League with the leader board currently very open.

This race is ideal for newbies or the 'trail curious' - but be warned, the loop up and around the lake is short but challenging, trail shoes with grip & nimble feet* recommended.

Camping available on site ('semi-wild' for all you camping folk, who know what that means ? )

*those without 'nimble feet' also welcome
Catherine ClancyMay 19 2025, 9:41amHi do you need more helpers ?
Jarlath HynesMay 19 2025, 1:15pmHi Catherine, one more 'running volunteer' would be great, if that would work for you.

Just need more runners who are curious about the Ass's Ears to sign up now.
Or anyone who wants to find Crotty the Robber's gold...
Catherine ClancyMay 19 2025, 3:34pmYep I can do that if it helps . So do I enter the races as normal as well .
Jarlath HynesMay 19 2025, 8:34pmHi Catherine, just enter race as usual & add your name as a running volunteer - I'll make sure you're finished by 10.30am so you've time for some pre-race prep.
Catherine ClancyMay 19 2025, 11:09pmGreat will do jarlath .
Jarlath HynesMay 22 2025, 9:58amReasons to sign up for this race;

there's no rain forecast for Saturday morning,
there are no trackers to cause any 'confusion' (WW Relay),
there is no cap on numbers (PW Seat),
it's a new venue, new course, views are spectacular,
there's plenty of carparking.

Reasons not to sign up for this race;

the climb up to the lake is similar to something from a Mick Hanney race (but not as bad),
the descent from the lake is...'bumpy',
unlike Slievenamon race, there will not be a seemingly endless supply & assortment of sambos & cakes,
you're based in West Kerry, North Donegal or Leitrim.
John Murphy74May 22 2025, 10:06amNo cakes!!! Get Tommy Phelan baking today!
Thomas PhelanMay 22 2025, 4:19pmBaking in the sunny weather is all I'm doing this week John haha. Place is looking well and ready for Saturday morning really looking forward to it now
Thomas PhelanMay 22 2025, 4:21pmIf anyone is interested in Camping the night before or after the race please WhatsApp Bernard the land owner on 0851491114, he will be more than happy to look after you all
Jarlath HynesMay 23 2025, 11:13amRegistration closes at 6pm today.

This race takes place on private land, including the lake loop; there is a €2 carpark fee per car, the parking marshal will collect it at the gate.

The overall course will be marked as per IMRA guidelines; the forest section will be marked fully - there'll be tape guiding you out & back (tip for newbies, follow the tape, not necessarily the runner ahead of you :)     ).    There will be a marshal at the Junior/short course turn point & at some of the junctions.

It's tricky/bumpy underfoot in places but mostly dry - runners with goop grip recommended.
Thomas PhelanMay 23 2025, 7:22pmCourse marked and ready to go for the race, great numbers signed up for this new event. Looking forward to all of you seeing this hidden gem of a place and the Corrie lake right in the Comeragh mountains. IMRA providing sambos at the finish line, if you could all bring a cup for Hot drinks at the finish line "Ass's Ears Hut" and €2 for the car parking. See you in the morning
Jarlath HynesMay 24 2025, 4:23pmThanks to everyone who signed up & ran the first Crotty’s Lake race. The location has great potential for future races; huge thanks to Bernard, the landowner, for all the support.
The course marking through the forest was an issue today, I’ll take the hit for that, I did that section :( , not Tommy or Stephen, the other race markers, we’ll do better next year. But it was a good day overall, most people seemed happy enough, even the ‘extra loops of the forest’ runners.
My primary focus was to get everyone safely down from the technical descent from the lake & thankfully everyone made it back in reasonable condition.

There was also a minor technical issue with pre race number ‘allocation’ , so the registration team had some extra work to do to sort that going ‘old school’ pen & paper. The results will be sent on asap to the results secretary and will likely be posted early next week. Prizes will be emailed to the winners as per usual.

It’s all made possible by a team of volunteers, so thanks to Tommy, Niamh, Stephen B, Robert, Liam, Marian, Gavin, Elia, Paul, Catherine, Dave, James, Stephen L for all their work.

See you all again soon on the hills.
Rob TobinMay 24 2025, 5:37pmThank you Jarlath and volunteers for today's introduction to Crotty's Lake and the Ass's Ears. Wonderfully varied course with nice woodland trails, loads of single track and a lovely fast descent from the lake. I hope to be back running in the Comeraghs again soon!
david laniganMay 24 2025, 6:25pmWell done on a cracking route lads. Getting lost in the woods just added more fun to the post-race conversation. Looking forward to future events in this area. Cheers.
Mick HanneyMay 24 2025, 7:33pmA super location for a race.
Hope we’ll be back.
Thanks Jarlath and team.
This route had a bit of everything.
The downhill from the lake was great fun.
Brian FarrenMay 24 2025, 11:00pmThank you Jarlath and volunteers. Lovely route. Great fun.
