A dry bright day but wet underfoot, on the grass climb and on the steep scramble to the summit, made for a very challenging race. Five men broke away on the climb but on the long descent it was Josh O'Sullivan Hourihan keeping a gap of 100 metres all the way to the finish. In the women's race it was Maria O'Sullivan running in seventh for much of the climb before the wet peat climb to the summit. Junior mountain running international Brighid Dennehy gained ground here and went well clear on the descent. UCC won the men's team title for the first time in the history of the event with TCD in silver. The positions were reversed in the women's race with TCD reclaiming the trophy.
