John Heneghan (Clonliffe Harriers) ran an excellent race in the national intermediate to finish runner-up to Brendan O'Neill (DSD) who competed for Ireland in the under 23 European cross-country championships in December 2009. Heneghan won Croagh Patrick in 2008 and was second Irish finisher in the 2009 World Mountain Running Championships.

Other IMRA runners in the men's intermediate included: Tom Hogan (Slaneyside) 10th; Brian Furey (Rathfarnham) 36th; Colm Hill (Kildare) 39th; Keith Daly (Donore) 55th; and Jason Kehoe (Crusaders) who was unfortunate to have to stop early on to put his spike shoe back on was 90th.

Carol Finn (Cork) was 26th in the women's intermediate followed by Maura Matthews (Clonliffe) in 30th.

Neil Carty (North Belfast) was the best placed mountain runner in the men's masters race in 27th. Turlough Conway (Rathfarnham) 47th, Martin McDonald (North Laois) 54th, Ed McEntee (Sportsworld) 67th, Adrian Tucker (Rathfarnham) 73rd, P.J. Carroll (North Laois) 82nd, and John Farrelly (Rathfarnham) 98th also competed.

Cathy McCourt (North Belfast) was 8th in the women's masters race followed by Helen White (Sportsworld) 10th, Mags Greenan (Clonliffe) 20th and winner W50, Zoe Melling (Rathfarnham) 43rd, and Mary Jennings (Waterford) in 48th and winner W55.
