- Route Description:
Race Route
Race to the top of Mweelrea and back from Silver Strand car park, following the route illustrated in the maps tab for this event. There are two mandatory points to reach on the route: The head of the gully on the col north of Mweelrea summit and the summit itself.
There will be a marshall at the mandatory point on the col and the route will be marked between the mandatory point on the col and the summit. Runners must be capable of navigating individually following the race route.
Short Course
There will be a short course turn-around option for at the first mandatory point on the col in case of bad weather. Any runner who does not feel confident to proceed to the summit in bad weather is to take the short course option.
- Getting There:
Parking
Parking at Silver Strand Car Park: https://goo.gl/maps/6KGPyrr7iWiZpL4W8
From Westport head to Louisburgh. Go straight through Louisburgh and keep on the main road until you reach the Silver Strand which is signposted. This is a narrow road and it's possible to get caught behind slow moving traffic very easily. Be sure to give yourself enough time to get to the race in time for registration!
Volunteers (Non-Running)
You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize
Volunteers (Running)
Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
