- Route Description:
- Route starts at Mám Éan car park L 89223 49493, Follows the Mám Éan pilgrimage trail up a gradual climb to the chapel & mass altar (1.6km + 160m climb). To the north of the mass altar the route follows a fence line to the summit of BC, climbing up grassy steep ground. On approaching the summit, the ground steepness decreases, turning boggier with some peat hags before becoming very rocky near the summit (1.6km + 360m climb). The summit is marked by a cairn. The short descent to the saddle between BC & BIDL via a carved out & well-defined rock & scree trail (500m, - 100m drop). The route follows the rocky ridge with a more gradual climb up to the SE top of BIDL (900m, +110m climb) and onto the summit of BIDL (1.0km, +60m climb). Another steep descent, keeping to the left of the lake to the saddle of BIDL (1.5km, -350m). The route continues to drop from the saddle following a stream back towards the road. The ground softens becomes less rocky and reduces in gradient on the approach to the road (1.8km, - 267m drop). The route follows the road, which is part of the western way walking trail back to the car park and finish line (3.4km).
Volunteers (Non-Running)
You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize
Volunteers (Running)
Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
