Joe LalorOct 25, 10:10pmNiamh, Before you publish the results could you check my result. I did leg three in about 170 mins. (same as last year) I started at 1.30. All the GEN team result are a bit complicated because of early starts. Gerry Brady should have the correct start and finish times.

Thanks, Joe

Melanie WalshOct 21, 12:30pmHi, Just wondering how everyone did, are the results posted somewhere?
Tks,
Colm HillOct 6, 12:13pmAny times up for the different legs?
Peter KernanOct 1, 2:14pmMany thanks to Niamh for taking over and running this event. To lots of people it's a special event and next year 2010 will be the 30th anniversary of it's first running. We should match the effort Niamh made and put work in to get it happen next year and onwards.

I don't believe it's a mud run, the boggy bits I'd estimate only make up 20% of the length and their is some fine quick running to be had on it. It takes in several of the main tops in Wicklow, Seefingan, Kippure, Mullaghcleevaun, Tonlegee, Lug to name a few and the changeover points at Sally and Wicklow Gap fall naturally almost as though they were planned for it.

The main problem in attracting folk to it, is, I think, that it is an unmarked open mountain route. Unless you have some experience it is a big ask for people to take on a leg where they may be going solo for all or most of the leg. The orienteers don't have as much reticence, not so much because they're clever at navigating, but because they spend a lot of their time getting lost anyway, and have learnt how to sort themselves out or not get lost in the first place.

The Wicklow Way relay is a fine race and it has brought many folks into the hills but it is a still a way run. Getting folk the ability to navigate means that they can then unlock the mountains themselves.

Many thanks again Niamh, if it did not happen this year it would have made it even more difficult to keep going.

There's a brief report up on http://orienteering.ie/builder.php3?Home ... it's from an Ajax team perspective, but may be of interest to some.
niamh o ceallaighSep 28, 9:19pmFulll results will be posted tomorrow.

Nobody missed the cut-offs. One team started 20 mins early.
Eamonn HodgeSep 28, 7:28pmSounds like a great race. Somebody put a report!

I won't sign up too quickly for the Adidas Race Series next year. There will always be people doing orienteering, road races, mountain biking, adventure races and (whisper it) triathlons which clash with IMRA races - which is a by-product of having such a full mountain running calendar (which is great!).

The cut-off times *seem* generous enough. Did any team miss the cut-offs?

Colm HillSep 28, 7:27pmYes you heard correctly Hazel. 1 hour and 45mins dead. If Gus can run it once, i see no reason why it can not be run again.

Does anyone know the break down of splits for the record time?
paul tierneySep 28, 2:49pmyes thanks for running a brilliant event niamh.and thanks for letting me and robbie compete. being knee deep in shite for 8 hrs definately beats the road any day of the week. thanks to joe lalor too for helping me get round the 3rd leg. hope to make many more trips up to a great place to run.

ps could someone invite me on to myimra please. thanks again to everyone i met on saturday
Tony KiernanSep 28, 10:36amGreetings from Saudi and 45deg heat…….please, please don’t let this race fade into the background again……during my tenure as IMRA Chair it was one of my goals to get this race back on the calendar after 8 or so years…..maybe I get a chance on the future to do it.

Well done to Niamh and crew for this keeping this years race alive.

While running around the Phoenix Park for 13.1miles is no mean feat its not a patch on running up to your neck in boggy shite ….

Jayses I miss that scenery…… :)
Hazel ThompsonSep 28, 10:24amYes, thanks Niamh for looking after this race - it was a long day for you. It was a great atmosphere and a great race, I'm sure the weather helped (even if I still couldn't see the Kippure mast from 20 meters away...) I'm looking forward to giving it a go next year again. I think there are a couple of guys hoping for the chance to try again to break 2 hours on the 3rd leg. Did I hear 1 hour 45 minutes Colm?!?
Mike LongSep 28, 9:45amThanks to Niamh and her crew for a great race on Saturday. It is a pity that there were not more runners (maybe half marathon intervened). I hope this does not mean that the race will be excluded from future fixture lists as I feel it is a great event and that IMRA should be promoting this type of race.

Mike Long
Brían O'MearaSep 25, 11:28amCould someone invite me onto the IMRA website? 087 9272615 I've forgotten my password. Thanks. I wont be able to do this race unfortunately - and the weather conditions look like they might be good for it.
Shane EnrightSep 23, 9:27pmI'm looking for a lift to the start of leg 1 from Clontarf if anyone is going my direction.

You can get me at my name @ gma1l dot com
Gerry BradySep 22, 9:04pmhttp://www.imra.ie/events/view/tab/report/id/528/ :)

Joe LalorSep 22, 8:26pmDoes anybody know if the results for last years Stone Cross to Lug relay were published. If so could you direct me to them, Thanks.
robbie williamsSep 22, 11:32amthats savage thanks niamh.

do u reckon there will be runners driving back to start or is it better that we arrange our own lift to pick up the car which we will leave at the start???

ta robbie
niamh o ceallaighSep 22, 9:17amColin,
All peaks must be visited as shown on route map including Mullaghcleevaun.

Robbie,
If you want to give me stuff at the start to bring to changovers for you, I can bring them to both changeovers and to the finish.

Niamh
Mike LongSep 21, 4:14pmFolks

Anyone interested in car pooling to Leg 1 of the relay next Sat?
Would there be anyone at the start who would then be willing to drive a car to Sally Gap?

Thanks

Mike
robbie williamsSep 21, 1:06pmhi all,

Colin WalshSep 15, 8:08pmHi, Just wondering what rules are on visiting peaks indicated on the route. On leg 2, going from East top to Barnacullian, is it compulsory to visit Mullaghcleevaun. Thanks
Ian ConroySep 10, 11:52pmHi,

Just wondering was there anybody out there who was short a man for a team? I would love to compete in the event, but haven't got a team. Any takers?

NIAMH O CEALLAIGHSep 7, 4:15pmHi Robbie,

Yes, individuals may enter, as long as they have evidence of having completed a similar length/difficulty challenge (the Art O Neill run suffices in your case).
The cutoff point for the start of leg 3 for individual runners is 2pm.
Individuals will not compete against teams, but will compete against one another.
Individual runners must check in at each of the check in points along the way.

The race director reserves the right to disqualify any individual or team at any point during the race if it is considered that there is any safety risk associated with that team or individual.

Rene BorgSep 6, 10:30amLatest updates and information on this event have now been posted to the event page by the Race Director. Please have a read through as there are quite a few changes and additional details to be aware of.
robbie williamsSep 4, 7:21pmhiya...

myself and my friebd would like to do the lot ourselves (have done few ultras this year including ye`re wicklow way ultra, connemara ultra and art o neill etc)

please advise

thanks a million

Paul JoyceSep 2, 5:59pmBoards AC should have at least one team too. Assuming we learn to read a map this weekend.
Kevin O'RiordanSep 2, 11:07amI'll be putting in a team for the event.

-Kevin.
Pol O'MurchuAug 21, 3:50pmI see this clashes with the half marathon. That's a shame. Was delighted that it was postponed last week as I was doing the 10mile and thought I would still be able to do but I guess it's just not to be :(
Brían O'MearaAug 21, 10:01amI plan on putting a team in for this event.

Paul MahonAug 21, 8:05amMany thanks Niamh for taking over the RD Reins!

Setanta will be there with a couple of teams we hope and am sure the Gen gents will be prominent.

Hopefully if the mist is down the Rathfarnaham hares will not find their way to the first hill from the start :-)
Colm HillAug 20, 6:59pmCNOC will be entering at least one strong team.

Will we see a Boards AC, Sli Cualann or Rathfarnham be entering a team??
Turlough ConwayAug 20, 4:54pmHi

Niamh has kindly offered to direct this race and the date will be saturday 26th September. I'm sure there will be no problems with numbers but please let us know on this forum or otherwise if you are competing. We may have a cutoff time and if there are not enough teams the event may be cancelled.

If you're thinking of competing time to start getting your team together!
Turlough ConwayAug 10, 2:50pmHi Caroline,

Yes the race will be postponed: most likely to a date in late September. Details to follow.
Caroline ReidAug 10, 11:03amIs this on this weekend or is it being rescheduled?
Many thanks
Colm HillAug 7, 12:32pmA sept date would be nice... There could be a few extra teams entred as guys will be back from the World Orienteering Champs by the stage.

If there is or isn\'t a change, its one hell of a race! Highly recommend
Niamh O CeallaighAug 6, 6:31pmHi Rene,

Unfortunately I will not be able to direct this race on the advertised date as I will only return from Scotland that morning. However, if nobody else steps forward, I would be willing to race direct on an alternative date. Probably September at this stage. It might be a preferrable option to cancelling the race for the year.

Niamh
Rene BorgAug 6, 4:10pmHi all,

No Race Director has stepped forward for this event yet unfortunately.

We will keep the status of the event open until over the weekend, but if we have not heard from or found a potential Race Director by Monday, we will have to make a final decision on whether to close this event down.

Write me at rene dot borg at imra dot ie if interested.
Rene BorgJul 31, 9:21amHi all,

We are a looking for a new Race Director for this Event as Tony has had to step down from the role.

Given the challenging design and rough ground covered for this event, we will need an experienced Race Director to take on this event and preferably someone with a good level of familiarity with this route.

-Rene
Kevin O'RiordanJul 29, 3:35pmCan anyone confirm if we need to pre-enter teams this year? I tried e-mailing our entry to Tony but his e-mail address no longer works (presumably as he\'s retired from committee duties this year).

Thanks,
Kevin.
Brían O'MearaJul 16, 4:10pmI assume that Mon 15th Sept (2008 presumably), as listed in the event details, wasn't the closing date for this race?

If the closing date above is incorrect, how long do I have if I want to put a team in this year?

Regards,

Brían
Jim FitzharrisApr 1, 2:02pmPaul,

Our parent body is IMRA. IMRA is affiliated to the Athletics Association of Ireland but that does not make the AAI our parent body.

In any event, I have looked at the AAI 2009 fixtures list and the 10 mile race on 16th August, while popular and well-known, is NOT an official AAI fixture.

Notwithstanding, you do make a valid point but as Dermot says, there are myriad running and related events on over the summer so avoiding all possible clashes is impossible. Colm mentions orienteering; there is also triathlon which gives me and other IMRA triathletes calendar headaches!

Within reason, the Committee has moved events in the past where it was feasible and made sense to do so. There is another IMRA event on the Sunday - Mangerton - so while it is unlikely that people will do both, clearly IMRA cannot have two of its own events of this stature on the one date.

Cheers,

Jim.
Dermot MurphyApr 1, 1:23pmPaul, during the summer the are a lot running events on somewhere, and quite lot of them clash with IMRA races. I think all we can do is set out our own calendar and let people decide for themselves what events that want to take part in. And thats leaving aside all the mountain biking/Orienteering/Adventure races etc that many IMRA runners are involved in.
I think it is a valid point that there would be few people wanting to take part in the Phoenix park run and the Lug relay. You are obviously one of the exceptions and that is unfortunate. But an the end of the day, I think we will have to keep to the original date for this.
Paul O'GradyApr 1, 12:58pmRight - I'm not going to turn this into one of these saga's but there is a point here. We have a parent body - and I thought we should NOT be seen to be doing our own thing when National Events that involve our parent body are organised.

If one more team enters the Lug Race due to not having a clash of events is it not worth it? Plus if the Lug relay is a race that doesnt have a large attendance what difference does it make whether it is on the Saturday or the Sunday - we do run races on both days over the weekends?

Caitlin - my point is we have a parent body and we shopuld not be snubbing the handful of events the parent body is involved in each year.

Colm - our parent body is not Orienteering Ireland.
Colm HillMar 30, 8:15pmWould many road runners take part in the sufferfeast that is the stone cross to lug?!?!

I do alot of orienteering, would the committee consider changing all of the big IMRA races this summer that are on a bank holidays??
I think not and i wouldn't expect them too.

(The Irish Orienteering Championships are on in Donegal on the may bank holiday and the Shamrock O-Ringen is on the june bank holiday which clashes with Carrauntoohil, a race that i would relish running!)

The races are when they are, runners have to plan around it.

Colm
Caitlin BentMar 30, 7:45pmHere we go again! Are we not a Mountan Running Club first and foremost?
Paul O'GradyMar 11, 1:08pmI see this event is clashing with the highly popular Adidas Race Series in the Phoenix Park.

Would the Comittee in their invinite wisdom look at moving our race to an alternative date?
