Richard NunanJun 6 2013, 11:10amHi Folks,

The Irish Championships was discussed at the committee meeting and the following was agreed largely based on the feedback from the Forum.

1.) A bus will be provided to Slieve Donard at next years race.

2.) The winners(Male and Female) of the 2013 Irish Championships will be fully funded to go to a race of their choice in Europe next year 2014.

Thanks to all who contributed to the forum. It was great to see such good numbers at Carrauntoohil, some travelling the length of the country to take part in a classic race.

Next up Mweelrea!!!

Alan AylingJun 6 2013, 12:42pmNice one Richard & committee - two good decisions it would seem.

Curious on no 1 - is there an implication that the Irish Champs race will be the Donard race (as this year and last year), or is there a possibility of it being the Donard - Commedagh race (as 2010 & 2011)? While both are great routes, I would venture that the race including Slieve Commedagh is even more worthy of a place in the Irish Champs.
Richard NunanJun 6 2013, 3:46pmHi Alan,

Fair comment, it could be either race depending on how the NIMRA/IMRA calendar works out.

What we are saying is there will be a race up North and we will be providing Transport.
Joe LalorJun 7 2013, 9:57pmCould we have Irish Champs. Donard race result published on site please
Bernard FortuneJul 6 2013, 8:17pmPlease include S.Donard results in the Irish Champs please. Thanks
Marty Mc veighJul 8 2013, 5:53pmThe details of the Sl Donard race can be seen on Newcastleac.org. Under the results section, BTW, this link has been available since the evening of the race. Hope this helps
Turlough ConwayJul 8 2013, 10:40pmHi Marty.

I think Bernard was referring to the irish champs page on this site where donard is not currently included in the agregate score.

Anyone doing comimg down to knocknarae this year?

Congratulations to Brian Furey, Rathfarnham AC, Dublin and Diane Wilson, Dromore AC, Co. Down on being crowned Irish Championship winners last night.

As part of their prize, both Athletes will be fully funded to attend a race of their choice in Europe.
Jason KehoeNov 17 2013, 11:47amWell done Brian and Diane!

Great initiative by the IMRA committee and looking forward to seeing our champions compete in Europe next year.

I'll just leave this link here for you both to ponder on :)

Diane WilsonNov 20 2013, 7:35pmI had a look at the Zegama race Jason - what a beautiful area - looks brilliant. I have to say what a fantastic prize - there'll be no easing off for 2014!

Thanks Richard and Rachel for a great night on Saturday and all the usual great hospitality. Look forward to seeing you all next year.

Mick HanneyJun 11 2014, 2:26pmAs a matter of interest what are people's recommendations for races in Europe if one had a mind to travel and take one in?

Is there a particular website which collates such races?
Rory CampbellJun 11 2014, 2:41pmHi Mick,
I'm doing my first Alpine race (3hrs drive from Nice) in August. 30euro entry and cheap accom. in area.
http://www.trailubayesalomon.com/

Always a case of negotiation/compromise with regard to family holidays for me. 1 week mountains/1 week beach is the usual. This year I found the above run with this website.

Haven't found a great complete european site.

Brían O'MearaJun 11 2014, 2:49pmThe Swissalpine marathon (K42) is well worth doing, Mick. check out www.swissalpine.ch. Great event - really well organized, fantastic scenery with a lot of high alpine trail, including snow/glacier. It's easy to get to also - fly direct to Zurich and then a train from there to Davos (about 2.5-3 hrs). If time is an issue, and if you finish the marathon in 5 hours or under, you even have enough time to take the train back to the airport and catch the Aer Lingus evening flight from Zurich. The Irontrail (same area) looks good too, but I haven't tried that yet.
John J BarryJun 11 2014, 4:30pmCanigou mountain Marathon. French Pyrenees

I climbed it yesterday. Exact same route as race. Very impressive. Last 1000m metres brillant views of Pyrenees.

Mick HanneyJun 11 2014, 7:30pmSome good ideas there, thanks guys.

Found a site here with quite a few interesting options from short to long.

Brian FureyJun 12 2014, 9:04pmThere's a list on Robbie Simpsons blog from Martin Cox, not all of them are European races:
well worth checking out:

Maike JürgensJun 13 2014, 6:27pma couple of German routes (first one is a classic, according to wikipedia there are 7000 starters) both races are on in April

http://www.hermannslauf.de/ - 515 m climb, 710 descent in 31 km. it's a nice enough area if you wanted to do a hilly holiday with it.

http://www.sashalbmarathon.tsg78-hd.de/index.html - total climb about 500 to 600 m. i did this once, it s quite hard because it tends to be the first really hot weekend of the year, temperatures can be around 30 degC. it does sell out pretty quickly though.
Peter O'FarrellJul 28 2014, 11:47amRenaissance man Tom Blackburn's blistering descent on Lug propels him into contention for the overall in this Irish Championship with the descending theme continuing as Jason Kehoe's fastfeet skills keep him in the mix as well.
Unfortunately for himself Bernard Fortune couldn't attend Lug but fortunately for the others it sets up the cliched mouth watering clash down in Galtymore.

Bernard is on five points with two races ran (2,3)
Tom is on six points with two races ran (5,1)
Jason is the current IC leader on twelve points (4,6,2) but is essentially on the same six points for two races as the sixth place finish will be dropped.
Deon McNeilly could make the podium with his eight points after two races (5,3)

If either Tom or Jason wins and Bernard is second we have a tie on points scored.
The rules in the event of a tie on points may need to be clarified at this stage so the lads know what they need to do?
All roads now lead to Galtymore!
Jason KehoeJul 28 2014, 12:42pmPeter, to make it even more confusing you are forgetting the Donnard results! They need to be included into the tally.

@commitee - Could you clarify the Donnard results and current standings please?

Thanks,
Jason
