IMRA in Connacht

AuthorDateMessage
Feilim BorlandFeb 18 2014, 6:23pmI have recently moved to Galway and miss the Leinster races dearly!

Just wondering what efforts have been made in the past to develop IMRA in the West? Currently there are only two races in the calendar - Mweelrea and Nephin on a Saturday and Sunday in July. Oisín Doyle from these quarters has started a Wednesday night hill run in the Galway area and I expect this effort to grow as the evenings become longer.

I'm aware of some of the challenges involved with Connacht: lower population and accessibility of the mountains from urban areas being two issues. The Facebook page "Mountain and Hill Running in Connnacht" has about 300 members and is my 'go-to' site for hill running in the province, but I think more can be done as the mountains in the Connemara and Mayo areas have great potential.

What do you think needs to be done to improve mountain running in Connacht?
