Aidan RoeApr 21 2014, 10:40amI'm looking for some volunteers for this race. Preferably non-running, but all help appreciated.
Aidan.
Niall CorriganApr 21 2014, 3:05pmHi,

I just put my name down. I wouldn't mind doing summit marshal if needed but whatever.

Niall.
Aidan RoeMay 2 2014, 7:22amThanks Niall.

I need a few more volunteers please.

James Cahill. You started another thread asking about points. Your list is correct. With exception of Turlogh Hill decent, there isn't much scope for route choice I don't think, but I don't mind being corrected

Aidan
James H CahillMay 2 2014, 9:16amThank you Aidan, looking forward to the race.
Aidan RoeMay 5 2014, 9:18pmBump

Third and final call for some help on this one.

Aidan
David SullivanMay 6 2014, 9:24pmHi Aidan,
I haven't run an imra race before, do I have to register to enter the vale of glendasan race or can you advise on entry procedure, thanks,
David.
Sinéad DunphyMay 7 2014, 2:29pmHi Aidan,
I plan to do this race, but if I can be of any help as a running volunteer let me know. I have run few enough IMRA races and I have never volunteered, so not sure what I can assist with - but Im willing if Im needed !
Sinead
Maike JürgensMay 7 2014, 9:55pmHi Aidan, will there be an early start available for slower runners? thanks Maike
Keith McBeanMay 7 2014, 10:03pmHi Aidan. While I note the requirement to carry a map and compass etc, is a detailed knowledge of navigation essential or can you get by on this run with the basics? Many thanks.
david sullivanMay 7 2014, 10:44pmhi keith, where did u find the requirements for this race? this is my first imra race so im new to the setup, or where to enter? Any help much appreciated,

David.
Keith McBeanMay 7 2014, 10:57pmHi David. I saw the reference to carrying a compass etc in comments on IMRA's Facebook page which you could usefully consult. Keith
Sam ScrivenMay 8 2014, 10:11amAidan,

A couple of Q's about the race route based on the description on the Leinster Champs thread.

Is it mandatory to visit the old mine works on the way to the summit of Camaderry NW? And if so is Camaderry SE a mandatory point? I went that way once and popped up along the track between the two summits.

Following the main Brockagh summit is the Brockagh SE summit a mandatory point? I ask because I think it is slightly off the main track and is not visited in a Brockagh LL race (I'm open to correction on this!)

Cheers, Sam
Matthew SammonMay 9 2014, 12:17amHi, I could volunteer for this but would need a lift from Dublin. I live near Heuston station but can get picked up from anywhere accessible by public transport.
Aidan RoeMay 9 2014, 12:25pmSam
If you come up between the two high pints on Camaderry it won't make huge difference. You'll still have all the work done, so I'll allow it.
Brockagh east top is not mandatory. You skirt it on track.

Standard kit is mandatory at check in. I'll decide on Sun morning what needs to be carried. Map, compass, raingear and foil blanket.

I'll check in on site tmw lunchtime and awnser any more questions.

Aidan
Gavan DohertyMay 9 2014, 12:46pmHi Aidan,

Cracking route & weather currently looking ok according to yr.no.

If the 22k is a bit much for regular IMRA-ers there's an orienteering event on the race route in Brockagh, start any time between 11am-1pm. There are courses to suit all levels, details on:
http://gen.orienteering.ie

IMRA runners are likely to see folk tearing around the Brockaghs with map in hand - you're not hallucinating!

Probably see you Sunday.
Aidan RoeMay 9 2014, 4:10pmI will be in the Lower car park in Glendalough from 10.30 for race registration.
This is the one before you reach hotel. Look around and you'll find me. There will be an early start at 11.00 so those of you looking to get away early need to register on time.

There will be a 2.00pm cut-off at the Wicklow Gap. If you havent reached the Gap by then you should not continue by main route. You'll be too slow on second half. I'll be there or someone else, so please obey instructions. There will be a short course option back down St Kevins Way for runners not making the 2.00 cutoff.

Please have map, compass, rain gear and foil blanket with you when registering

Be wary of traffic at Wicklow Gap and espically crossing road just before finish. I'll have a sign up alerting motorists but its still a fast stretch of road and your on top of it suddenly. You also should be tired. if you arent you can try for a refund.

I'll take questions about route before race at briefing so keep them till then. I dont have regular computer access.

BTW. I hope it rains. it'll be great!

See you Sunday

david sullivanMay 9 2014, 4:17pmHi Aiden as you are the race director, would it be possible for you to let me know how I enter the race or where I can find further details ie requirements of the race as I cant find your facebook page,
regards,
David.
Maike JürgensMay 9 2014, 4:32pmHi David,

i am not RD, just a runner but as he pointed out he doesnt have regular internet access.

registration for the race itself is from 10.30, see message above. if you need to register for the year itself, you can do this online (there is a separate thread on this in the forum)

kit requirements are mentioned in this thread or the other "vale of Glendasan" thread.

if you click on "events" and choose "vale of Glendasan" from the list you might find more information.

the facebook page some people may refer to is the general "IMRA" facebook page, looking for IMRA from your facebook account should work, you may need to request membership but i think when i joined this was quite quick. there is a map for this race on the IMRA facebook page.

last but not least be warned that the route is not marked so a map and compass + some navigation skills are required to find your way around.

hope this helps.
david sullivanMay 9 2014, 5:07pmThanks Maike, looking forward to it!
Rachel BellMay 10 2014, 6:41pmHi Aidan,

I put my name down to volunteer tomorrow, what time do you want us to meet at?

Thanks,
Rachel
Aidan RoeMay 10 2014, 9:07pmRachel
Thanks for volunteering Rachel. If yous could be there tmw at 10.30

Can anyone who wants to do early start be there between 10.30 and 10.45

A.
Mick HanneyMay 11 2014, 6:04pmTough conditions and tough but great route today. Thanks to the route architect Aidan. Would be nice to see the route in good drier conditions instead of the wetlands we had to fight through. Great fun through. Lovely relief towards the end to be able to run the Brockagh descent, one of the few dry bits on the day - :-)

Well done Zoran on the win ! And the cake afterwards was yummy, thanks Niamh.
James H CahillMay 11 2014, 6:51pmThank you Aidan,Niall, Rachel and Barry for a great day in the hills today. Excellent route Aidan, and as promised the Brockagh Ridge delivered some tough conditions underfoot. They were also tough conditions face down and lying on my back - I tried those techniques also. None successful and not recommended.
Dermot MurphyMay 11 2014, 7:22pmGreat race today - thanks Aidan for organising and all volunteers who helped out as well!
Laurence BriodyMay 11 2014, 8:24pmI tried the face down bit on brockagh too james not great help,,, but great fun. Loved the race thanks to all for another well organised race..
Maike JürgensMay 11 2014, 8:49pmthanks Aidan and volunteers for a nice day out. race report written but the website doesnt have a reports tab (yet). enjoy your Sunday evening.
Zoran SkrbaMay 11 2014, 9:15pmThanks to Aidan and the volunteers. A bit wild up there :). Good route, although I think you should consider allowing shortcut through the Glendasan forest to the finish.
John BellMay 11 2014, 9:23pmGreat race and route today. Aidan managed to find one of the wettest boggiest routes I have ever done. Thanks very much to Aidan, Rachel, Niall and Barry for a really enjoyable afternoon on the hills. Hopefully my legs recover enough for Alan's new route up Djouce on Wednesday!
Aidan RoeMay 12 2014, 9:18amGreat effort everyone yesterday. Many thanks to Niall, Rachel and Barry for giving up their time.
I don't think the Tonlagee - Brockagh stretch ever dries out so I wouldn't hold my breath Mick waiting for it.
Zoran , the descent onto the Wicklow Way and back to hotel gives 21km +/- a nice neat distance.
Look to the orienteering events if you want short cuts 😁
Well done BTW.

I'll try have the results up in the next day or so. No net access. Just phone.
Aidan RoeMay 12 2014, 9:25amGreat report Maike BTW.
A.

Don't get hung up on a minute or two. Once your in the correct position I'm not pushed. You shouldn't be either. Apologies for any mispelt names, some of the writing was hard to decipher
Ken Cowley you presented me with a conundrum. Should you get a Long Long Course and first place in a seperate category.

NN signifies a New Number (for whoever is uplaoding them to the data base)

Aidan
Alan AylingMay 13 2014, 5:37pmAh, here, don't tell me you haven't worked out our Enduro Points for the race :-)
Keith MulveyMay 15 2014, 3:45pmThanks Aidan, just slight amendment, Keith Mahony to Keith Mulvey instead. Thanks for a brill event.
Sam ScrivenMay 16 2014, 12:45pmSuper race. That route is a keeper. Testing conditions for sure.
I passed someone in the last km along the Wicklow way and finished ahead of him, possibly Andy.
Aidan RoeMay 16 2014, 5:34pmSam and Keith. I'm not uploading results to computer. When they go up you could draw their attention to it.
