Mud Sweat & Runners are working with coaching company ChampionsEverywhere on setting up a new grass-roots athletics club in Glendalough/Laragh. The club is planned to conduct its training sessions over the winter at the Laragh GAA club and the aim is for it to become a fully registered club with Athletics Ireland with all the bells and whistles that that entails.
While we wait for final go-ahead to use the Laragh GAA pitches, we thought we’d give everyone a bit of a preview of the sessions, so for the upcoming Thursday’s René (Borg) will be joining JuJu Jay for a series of introductory hill sessions on the Green Road zig-zags behind the Woollen Mills. The session will be suitable for anyone who can run at least 5 km and will include a coached warm-up and cool-down and a fun and challenging uphill-focused workout.
We will meet at Lynham’s of Laragh car park to trot down to the Green Road as part of the warm-up. Please be ready to run at 7 pm so we get the most out of the quickly fading light. Bring a head-torch, just in case, as it can get dark under the trees quicker than expected.
When the club goes live we’ll communicate practical things such as Committee, training times, annual membership fees and so on but until we get formally started these introductory session are free of charge and there’ll be no need to pay club membership. but donations are always welcome..
As part of the general introduction, Mud Sweat & Runners will host René Borg and ChampionsEverywhere for a 2-hour talk on ‘Running Kickstart’ and how to get off to the best possible start to your running. We hope this will happen in October but are just confirming dates and availability of the coaches.
