A few painfully slow mountains in the last few hours I think the darkness just got in on me. It was so dark for so long.
Phil HodgeDec 12 2016, 10:00amLiam, congrats and well done on a fantastic achievement. I failed in my attempt during the summer due to nav issues during the night - so to have spent so much time in darkness - I take my hat off!
John Ryan PrestonDec 12 2016, 11:23amCracking job. Congrats. Recover well
Brendan LawlorDec 12 2016, 11:28amA new chapter in the history of the Wicklow Round was written at the weekend when Liam Vines completed the first Winter Wicklow Round (and also became the first double Rounder). Many have attempted and failed at this challenge in mid Summer, with night navigation problems often the main difficulty. Liam had to navigate in the dark for at least 13 hours which is a serious test of skill and concentration.

Big congratulations to Liam and his brilliant support crew led by the indomitable James H Cahill - his fee for future rounds has reportedly trebled on the back of this latest achievement !
Paul MorrisseyDec 12 2016, 2:26pmAwesome stuff Liam Vines! Mid winter with all that darkness, factors that set this apart from any other Round attempt so far. Solo too! Hard to think how you could make this any more difficult, a one legged Round maybe? A mighty effort. I am looking forward to buying you a pint and toasting your success.
Brian KitsonDec 13 2016, 11:31amArt O'Neill Champ and first Winter round, that's some way to bookend a great year for you. Well played
Karen DevenneyDec 13 2016, 12:11pmCongratulations just doesn't seem to cut it, can't wait to see what you do next Liam! Result is up:)
Peter BellDec 13 2016, 6:38pmWell done Liam, impressive stuff.
James ClancyDec 14 2016, 4:08pmAmazing effort Liam, very well done!!! Incredible achievement.
