Pól Ó MurchúFeb 24 2017, 2:08pmHi all,

Many of us will have had the pleasure to know Maurice Timmins who passed away on Wednesday. Very sad news.

Maurice will be sadly missed by all those that knew him. I had the pleasure of knowing Maurice and running with him through a team in the BHAA and what kind hearted man! A great man to stop and chat with for a while and always had a trip planned, an adventure or race of some sort coming up. Great man for the stories.

Maurice was a very active member of Raheny Shamrocks Athletic Club, the BHAA and an occasional hill runner back in the day with IMRA.

Maurice arrived late to running but took to it quickly. He was a man that ran many marathons (over 200) including running them on all 5 continents. For his 100th marathon, Maurice organised a special event in 2004 which involved running around St Stephens Green 26 times. His latest project was to run marathons in all 28 EU countries. At the time of his passing Maurice had only 3 remaining.

For Maurice, athletics was not all about running, in fact, Maurice probably gave a lot more back to athletics than he got from it. If Maurice couldn’t run in a race then he was there helping out. Even at the BHAA race at ALSAA last weekend Maurice was handing out leaflets promoting an upcoming race. He was actively involved in most BHAA races as well as races organised by the Raheny Shamrocks.

Here's a lovely photo I came across of Maurice and Seamus who no doubt are up there running around and having the craic and banter like old times. https://www.imra.ie/photos/view/id/32044/
