Inigo AlanaMay 4 2017, 1:53pmI'm considering doing this race on Sat June 10th. Is anyone planning to do it also? If anyone has done it before or knows the route, how is the terrain? I'm wondering what type of shoes would be best.
Stuart ScottMay 4 2017, 3:11pmHi Inigo. It's been years since I've done it but as far as I remember, the last 10k or so is all on forest road and the first section is pretty dry too. So very similar to the WW Trail I suspect but someone who's done it more recently might know for sure!
Michael O'DonoghueMay 4 2017, 4:24pmI've done the marathon the last 3 years. It was so dry last year you could probably have worn road shoes, but previous years its been proper mucky requiring decent trail shoes. Bits in Donard, Tollymore and Kilbroney Forests were fine but middle sections, especially Rocky Mountain were proper muckfests. I tried wearing Inov8 fell shoes one year, but they murdered my feet in last 10k so not wearing those.
Maria Elena PlacidoMay 4 2017, 7:11pmI haven't done it before, I might do the half marathon, but I am not sure yet.
Michael O'DonoghueMay 4 2017, 7:40pmIts one of my favourite events. Doing the Ultra this year. I really like the route, its pretty well supported and has quite a good finish. You don't go over the tops of actual mountains but see a lot of the scenery.
Inigo AlanaMay 4 2017, 9:10pmThanks for the replies. So Trailroc 255s over Xtalon 212s then?

Sounds like a nice race! It'd be nice to meet up there or even travel together. I'll be driving myself and can offer a few spaces going from South Dublin.
Phil HodgeMay 5 2017, 8:48amInigo - I have run it in trailrocs the last few years - perfect - either those or roclites. Too much forest road for X Talons.
Gail NicolsonJun 6 2017, 2:19pmI am doing the Ultra too. It's my first time and really looking forward to it!
Inigo AlanaJun 9 2017, 11:19amGail, I'm only doing the half. Good luck and enjoy it tomorrow! :)
