Wicklow Round Attempt

AuthorDateMessage
Paul O'CallaghanDec 19 2018, 9:18pmThis is official notification that I'll be making an attempt at the Wicklow Round this Friday, 21st December (Mid-Winter Solstice), starting at 7:25am.
This will be a solo and unsupported(self-sufficient) attempt.
I'll carry all my gear and provisions from the start, for the duration of the attempt, and will not have drop bags or logistics support along the route.
For safety and updates, Simon Kelly will monitor my progress with a tracker, and check on me at road crossings.

Eoin KeithDec 19 2018, 10:46pmNow that's what I call all in. Best of luck. It's great to see someone attempt the round in this style, and especially impressive to choose the winter solstice. Hopefully the weather will be co-operative.

Paul O'CallaghanDec 22 2018, 10:47amThanks for the good wishes everybody. I managed to skin it at 23 hours 38 mins. Ground, visibility, very strong winds and rain made it the hardest day by a mile.

I'm looking forward to hearing how it went once you've thawed out and recovered. Doing it self-supported must've thrown up a lot of challenges, especially around how much to carry. Well done!

Gareth LittleDec 22 2018, 8:05pmI’ve been running IMRA races for ten years now and I’ve seen some fine achievements over that time but this is by far the cream of the crop. The WR is tricky at the best of times let alone mid winter on the shortest day. A massive hats off to you Paul! Enjoy the celebrations

Gareth
