New Sandwich Policy

AuthorDateMessage
Stuart ScottApr 1 2025, 12:33pmHi all,

As you all know, one of the best things about IMRA is the social chats after a race, usually held in a local pub with some sangwiches or other local delicacies paid for by IMRA. In the interests of inclusivity, it has been decided that, effective today, these sangwiches will be provided at the start of each race instead. Not only will it maximise the social atmosphere around the race but it is hoped that the new policy will reduce the unbelievably fast winning times that's been playing havoc with our percentages in recent years.

Alan AylingApr 1 2025, 12:40pmWhile we're at it, might I take this opportunity to express my disappointment at the lack of egg sangwidges at IMRA races? All manner of vegan stuff and ham and cheese and what-have-ya, but rarely a decent egg mayo to be had. Surely we deserve better?

Or is the deliberate non-inclusion of egg sambos in some way related to attempts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions?
Paul FlynnApr 1 2025, 12:40pmNobody is going to want to eat before a race, so I'm presuming we'll have to take the sangwiches and carry them around the course with us?
Phil behanApr 1 2025, 12:48pmWill be there an early start sandwich round ?
Alan AylingApr 1 2025, 12:54pmYes Phil. With the crusts cut off to make things as easy as possible for our denture-wearers.
Brian FarrenApr 1 2025, 1:00pmThe Sangwiches could be added to the kit list for the longer runs
Dermot O'EidhneainApr 1 2025, 1:31pmIs there a difference if you enter the short or long course Stuart regards rationing?
If you miss the sandwiches at one race ( which I always do ) can they be accumulated and collected later ?
Stuart ScottApr 1 2025, 2:06pmHi Dermot. No sangwich transfers or refunds I'm afraid and strictly one sangwich per person. We'll keep a close eye on the finances and may have to tighten our belts if the initiative proves too costly.
John Murphy74Apr 1 2025, 2:13pmEvery10th event at least you will be expected to volunteer to supply the sangiches.
Alan KennedyApr 1 2025, 2:14pmIf I car pool and have at least 6 in my car would that qualify for one additional sangwich?
Barry MurrayApr 1 2025, 2:30pmGreat idea Stuart, and in the interests of diversity, I hope both white and brown bread sandwiches will be available, maybe 50/50 type too. Also in the interests of equality, early starters should wait until all regular starters have signed in before they choose their sandwich.
Dermot O'EidhneainApr 1 2025, 2:30pmSorry Stuart, I need to challenge this policy.......you point out that we may need to quote " tighten our belts" and yet you are giving out sandwiches . Seems counter productive to me.
Mikey FryApr 1 2025, 2:52pmReally:))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Turlough ConwayApr 1 2025, 4:10pmStuart this policy will be counteractive to reducing percentage differentials.
Lads in the +160% area (I'm one now) will eat our own sandwich and will sense extra sandwiches available to be scoffed knowing the skinny springers in the top few % will reject theirs.
I suggest only < 160% get a sandwich and < 110% have to eat theirs in front of the RD?
Rob TobinApr 1 2025, 7:52pmAlan Kennedy, 6+ passengers is a sangwidge in itself. More butter!
Mick HanneyApr 1 2025, 8:48pmThe trick is to sign up for the smaller scale events, like Stranahely Woods. Better sandwich to runner ratio.
Mikey FryApr 1 2025, 9:09pmWhy isn’t mrs Doyle on this chat lads:)))))))
Ah you will race on those 6 sandwiches go on go on ho on…,,,
David PowerApr 1 2025, 9:57pmNot to throw a spanner in the works, but could RESULTS be split by dietary requirement?
GFSR - gluten free sandwich runners FS and MS
PR - paleo runners, i.e. lettuce leaf sandwich (Barry Murray) M50
SDR - sourdough runners (people who don't buy a regular whitepan loaf in the supermarket) F40 and M55
VR - veggie runners F60 and M60
BSSR - bog standard sandwich runners, the majority of the field, the most competitive, just like the M40 and F40 prize.
Barry MurrayApr 2 2025, 11:29amM45 actually Dave ;) , although I go more for SDR these days. I even like the odd BSSR.... inclusivity
