Rob Tobin | Apr 29 2025, 10:50pm | Scarr hosts the third race in this year's Leinster League on Wednesday 14th May, just over a fortnight away from now. Entries will go on sale at 09:00 on Monday 12th May and we are limited to a total of 210 entries for this year's race, so set your alarms and reminders to avoid disappointment. I am very grateful to everyone who has already offered to volunteer. We could do with a few more volunteers signing up to ensure the success of this race. In particular we still need a Race Marker, Laptop Operator and Helpers, both non-running and running. To volunteer, simply navigate to the Event Details tab, scroll down to the Volunteer section and click on a role to sign up. Volunteering is a great way of getting to know some of your fellow mountain runners. Don't be shy now... This year's course is a version of the route we raced on in the Leinster League in 2023, the main difference this time being the omission of the short section of Gaffney's Lane from the start and finish: https://www.strava.com/routes/3352399000184036772 There will be an early start (7:00pm) and we will also have the Junior League event which will go off a few minutes after the main start (7:40pm). The mandatory kit for this event is Level B (Standard) and the required kit to be carried throughout the race will be confirmed on the day of the race. Please carpool wherever possible - once again go to the Event Details tab, scroll down to Carpool and add your Carpool offers (or requests) there. We will have prizegiving and raffle afterwards - details will be confirmed shortly. That's it from me for now - I'll be posting any further information and updates here on the event page in the lead-up to entries going on sale. |
Caitriona Nic Caba | May 9 2025, 4:08pm | is there a short course for this? is it the same route as the junior course? thanks |
Rob Tobin | May 9 2025, 5:23pm | Hi Caitriona. Yes, these are one and the same. We've devised the Short Course to include all the best parts of the Long Course, taking in the main climb alongside the wall and the spectacular descent along Scarr's southern ridge. Approx. 4.9 kms with 250 metres of elevation gain. |
Rob Tobin | May 11 2025, 3:03pm | Email to volunteers sent. Please check and if the email hasn't arrived you can let me know by replying here or call/text oh ate seven, won seven fore tutu ate five. Scarr goes on sale at 9:00 tomorrow morning with a strict cap on entries at 210. Course details for Long and Short courses can be viewed under the Event Details tab. Please carpool to this event wherever possible. Please get your carpool offers and requests in early - you can add those in the carpool section under Event Details. |
Rob Tobin | May 12 2025, 11:40am | Entries for Scarr are selling quickly this morning. Get yours while stocks last. A huge thanks to all the volunteers. I now have enough volunteers for this event so please look to fill roles at other upcoming races in the calendar. We have tweaked the Scarr route slightly from previous editions, extending the 2023 route with the addition of the lower section of the 2024 route, finishing along the Wicklow Way via Brusher Gap Hut. The Short Course incorporates all the best parts of the Long Course, including the lovely climb along the wall and most of the delightful descent along the ridge from Scarr. Afterwards we will head to Kavanaghs Vartry House in Roundwood for food, presentations and post-race raffle with a range of excellent spot prizes to be won, including sports massages (for any post-race DOMS!) at the Sports Physiotherapy & Athletic Rehab Clinic (SPARC). At the moment the forecast for Wednesday evening is looking good. Please be mindful of the mandatory kit requirements. All runners should ensure they bring full "B" kit with them on the night and the kit to be carried (or worn) during the race will be advised at reg. At the reg area we will also be taking donations of unused kit - if you have any running shoes, jackets, hats, gloves, etc. that aren't seeing the mountains as much as you'd hoped when you bought them, please bring those along with you and keep an eye out for the big blue IKEA bag at reg. Thanks to those who have already put up carpool offers. Even if you are driving some or most of the way to this event, please consider joining with another car nearby, e.g. parking at Kilmac, Roundwood, Laragh or elsewhere en route. It will make life that little bit easier for our parking marshalls who are trying to get everyone in quickly and safely. Please note our access for parking is via the new fire road and not Gaffneys Lane. The entrance to the new fire road is 500 metres further south, heading from Oldbridge towards Laragh. Karl Bourne | May 12 2025, 2:00pm | Looking forward to this one, I think (possibly not the 200mtr climb up through the Heather and Bracken). Just wondering where parking will be, is there a field being utilised near the start line? Cheers, Karl |
Rob Tobin | May 12 2025, 2:06pm | Hi Karl, we will be using the new fire road for parking. The entrance to this fire road is located about 2.5 kms south of Oldbridge on the road to Laragh. Here is a Google Maps link to the entrance location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pX7jV6srGEcVXKy57 |
Karl Bourne | May 12 2025, 2:11pm | Excellent - got it. Cheers |
Eoin Phelan | May 12 2025, 4:25pm | Hi I completely forgot about this race going on sale today. If an entry becomes available can you let me know please? Thanks, Eoin |
Rob Tobin | May 12 2025, 4:47pm | Sorry Eoin, the Scarr race has a strict entry limit and all entries have now been sold. |
Rob Tobin | May 13 2025, 12:28pm | Email update sent to Volunteers - please check and let me know if you didn't receive. The forecast for Scarr for tomorrow continues to look promising. The mandatory kit is Level "B" (Standard) and the exact kit to be worn/carried will be advised tomorrow before the race. Based on forecast as it stands it is recommended you also bring a drop of water for before and after the race. Afterwards we'll head to Kavanaghs pub in Roundwood where there will be some hot food, prizegiving and raffle. Some fabulous spot prizes to be won in the raffle, including: - 3x Sports Massages at the Sports Physiotherapy & Athletic Rehab Clinic https://www.sparc.ie/ - A thirst-quenching brewery tour for 4 people at Rascals Brewing Co. https://rascalsbrewing.com/ Thanks again to everyone who has added their Carpool offer. Special mention to Brian McGuckin for letting prospective passengers know exactly what they can expect to hear en route. That sounds ideal Brian. I must jump in with you one of these Wednesday evenings. :D |
Rob Tobin | May 13 2025, 5:21pm | A reminder there will be a ***Big Blue IKEA Bag*** at registration tomorrow and we're hoping it will be filled with unused kit. Thanks in advance. |
Rob Tobin | May 14 2025, 4:16pm | Looking forward to welcoming runners to Scarr this evening. A cracking evening to be out running in the hills. A few last updates/reminders: 1. Access to parking here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pX7jV6srGEcVXKy57 2. The mandatory kit to be carried/worn by all runners is a jacket. Checks may be carried out and anyone found to be without a jacket will receive a DNF. 3. For our junior event, only juniors aged 10 or older today (D.O.B. on or before 14 May 2015) may run unaccompanied. All juniors born after this date must have an accompanying adult. Looking forward to seeing you at Scarr later on. |
Kevin O'Riordan | May 14 2025, 11:23pm | Cracker as always. Hope the junior who took a fall at the stile at the end is alright. |
Jeff Swords | May 15 2025, 12:22am | Results published so email IMRAResults at Gmail dot com if there's issues with them. |
Anne Hodge | May 15 2025, 8:14am | Fantastic race thanks to Rob and all your volunteers. The uphill didn't seem quite so bad as other years - maybe being blinded by the setting sun on the way up too my mind off i. And the downhill ... The best fun!!! |
Ronan Hickey | May 15 2025, 8:16am | What an amazing race. Thanks to Rob and his team. A special shout out to the marshal with the bells raising people's spirits on the climb!! |
Aideen Burke | May 15 2025, 9:11am | Brilliant race, huge thanks to Rob and the volunteers for a super fun night on the hills. The cowbells were class. Don’t think I’ve seen that course so dry… hardly a bog hole in sight! |
Mick Hanney | May 15 2025, 4:15pm | Thanks Rob and team for a fab race on Scarr. I've run Scarr Weds races many times but don't ever recall that track contouring the summit, and approaching it from the other side. There was even some wet bog bits found to keep it familiar. |
Stuart Scott | May 15 2025, 4:34pm | Well done and thanks to Rob and your team for an excellent race last night - and your first RD role too. It was flawlessly organised, calm and efficient and you've continued to up the ante with the post-race raffle. We couldn't have asked for nicer weather. It was my first time on the new route behind the summit and it's perfect - it's reasonably runnable and maximises the lovely descent, while complying with the national park restrictions. Scarrr remains one of my most favourite races - it's hard to beat! |
Warren Swords | May 15 2025, 5:05pm | Thanks Rob and team for a perfect night of racing. Scarr never disappoints. Brutal climb, circle of hell around the summit before the nice part. |
Brian Kitson | May 15 2025, 7:34pm | Rob, you looked like a man who’d been race directing for years. Well done to you and the team. Loved that route. After weeks of hardly any rain, I somehow arrived home with wet runners again If they ever need to find water on Mars they just need to run an IMRA race up there. |
Rob Tobin | Yesterday, 7:01pm | Thanks to everyone who came, saw and conquered Scarr on Wednesday. Congratulations to our winners - male and female, podium, category and junior. My sincere and heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of the volunteers and to everyone who helped out with planning and organising the race. I won't list everyone here, but special mentions are due to Lillian Deegan, Andy Keeling and Ailbhe Donnellan whose support I was very glad of and leaned heavily into in the lead-up to race day. A massive thanks to each of the following for their generous donations of spot prizes: * Sports Physiotherapy & Athletic Rehab Clinic (SPARC) https://www.sparc.ie/ * Rascals Brewing Co. https://rascalsbrewing.com/ * Trim A.C. Braveheart 5 km https://eventmaster.ie/event/lMwWSV8HPO (come on Bravehearts in the WWR!!!) A big thanks to runners who contributed to the kit collection at registration. Keep an eye out for the ***Big Blue IKEA Bag*** coming to a race registration area near you in the very near future. Lost and found - 3 items: 1. Leap card 2. Bike bottle, clear w/ green cap. Finnegan's Cycles Kenmare / Wild Atlantic Way branding. 3. Black polyester glove (right hand only!) If any of these items is yours you can let us know here. They will be available for collection from the IMRA van at Prince William's Seat next Wednesday 21st May. |
Sorcha Loughnane | Yesterday, 7:08pm | Thanks Rob and your merry band of volunteers for a great race and super fun route! |
