Evan FlynnJul 4 2013, 9:42pmHi, I am new to this but I was wondering to find out some info on this?
Evan FlynnJul 4 2013, 9:46pminformation on the event.
Gerry BradyJul 5 2013, 2:31pmEvan, it is an up and down World championships with junior men running two laps of 4.5 km. You have to be born in 1994-1997 however 1997 would be very young for a 9 km race. There is an under 16 British and Irish championships later in September. The trial race for both is on in early August.
nuala cookeJul 7 2013, 10:07amHi! What distance and positive climb is the sen womans race? thanks
Gerry BradyJul 7 2013, 9:15pmNuala

We will decide this in the next week. The senior men will probably be around 12 km and junior women around 4 km with a climb of around 10% on the ascent.
Evan FlynnJul 10 2013, 3:23pmHi thanks for replying. Where can I find the info for this event(british and irish trials)
Gerry BradyJul 14 2013, 11:10pmProvisional course details are on IMRA web page. The trial is for both the World championships and the British and Irish junior races. The lap has a downhill first half and uphill second half. Volunteers needed.
Gerry BradyJul 21 2013, 12:28amAmended course map uploaded along with course photos. The race is open entry and a challenge for anyone who wants to try a course with laps and involving a lot of change of pace.
Peter O'FarrellJul 22 2013, 9:11pmLooks interesting Gerry.
Is the the main loop clockwise or anticlockwise and how does the smaller loop crossing work?
cheers Peter
Gerry BradyJul 22 2013, 11:30pmPeter a step ahead as always! The notes below have been added to the event details. They probably need to be read in conjunction with the photos! Clockwise on a mountain bike would be fun for a beginner. Let me know if the notes need amendment.

World and British junior trial races 2013 - Djouce Route Notes

All races start and finish at the barrier below the car park. The course follows the main path downhill. After 375 metres, you come to a fork – this is where the lap starts. Keep right at the fork and continue until you come to the next( wide) path junction. Turn right at this junction (take the middle path which is slightly to the right and not the one that doubles back).

Go down this path for around 200m until you come to a crossroads with a much smaller path used by mountain-bikers. Turn very sharp right and descend until you come to a wider road. Turn slightly right and then a quick left onto a straight descent through the trees. This is the most scenic part of the course!

At the end of the avenue of trees, continue down a very narrow path that veers left downhill past a tree on the path and then swings to the left (you are almost beside the river).Take a sharp left up a short steep bank and veer a little to the left before turning right and running up a tree ride. Turn right when you hit the main path then left at the fork. Just after taking a path bend to the left, you are back at the mountain-bike path junction. This time you turn right uphill. This path comes out on the main path from the car park and you are now around 2.1 km into the race.

Turn right on to this main forest road and look for a very faint path on your left after around 230m. This is single-track uphill and you come to a junction after 30 metres. Take the right fork and follow this dirt track as it veers left uphill and crosses a small path. Turn left at the top of this climb and you are now on a narrow track heading home. Keep right at the next fork and continue until you come to the end of this path. Cross an earth bank and turn left and you are now into very fast running to the end of the lap.
Conor O'KeeffeJul 28 2013, 6:10pmHi, just interested to know if there is an U23 selection at this or any other event.

1-2 more volunteers would be appreciated particularly someone for down near the river where the course has a number of quick turns.

Registration will open at 9:45.
Jim FitzharrisAug 2 2013, 10:05amGerry,

Do you have the laptop?

If not, who has it?

Cheers,

Jim.
Jim FitzharrisAug 2 2013, 10:09amHi all,

Do not forget that if you volunteer for this, it counts as a non-running volunteer slot.

Very useful if you need one of these to qualify for your end of league prize!

I helped Gerry out at one of the youth/junior events a few years ago and it's great to see the energy, vitality and sheer speed of the youngsters. Truly uplifting!

Cheers,

Jim.
Michael HeatlyAug 2 2013, 5:57pmI would like to volunteer to help at this .
Peter O'FarrellAug 3 2013, 2:05pmMany thanks to Gerry, Jim, Vivian, Dermot, Leo and all the other helpers for today's race. On a well designed course the successful athletes will have received a good test which will stand them in good stead in the real deal in a few weeks time.
