RD Report

19 Feb 2018

The 80 runners who registered for the Crohaun race yesterday morning weren't treated to views of the Dungarvan, the Comeraghs and the Knockmealdowns, but spirits were still high in the fog and the rain!

The kids race kicked off at 10.30am, with locals Tom and Lilly Windross taking first boy and first girl! The Short and Long routes both kicked off shortly after 11am. First home in an incredibly quick time was Ballyroan Abbeyleix athlete Callum Hogg, who was the male junior winner on the short route. Female junior winner on the short route was Lara Greene from Kildare.

We didn't even have to wait 30 mins for local man and West Waterford athlete Andy Fleet to cross the line, taking first male on the long route. First female on the long route went to Wexford woman Dena Hogan.

Full results will be posted on the IMRA website towards the middle of the week.

I would like to thank the Crohaun landowner, Tom Walsh, for giving us permission to use his land for the race. And, like a true working mountain man, Tom and his brother Pa arrived in their tractor before the race, scattering warming up runners, to head off up the mountain to rescue a fallen sheep!!!! Race or no race, there was work to be done!

I also want to say a huge thank you to all who volunteered to help today. Without the help of Ann Moloney, Ann O'Brien, Barry Joseph John, Cathal Dwane, Cormac Mac Donnell, David Nolan, John Paul Mills, Mark Horvath, Michael Brendan Foley, Seán O'Ciardubháin, Tom Power, Tony Sullivan and my wife and daughters, Fiona, Doireann and Órlaith, we could never have pulled off such a successful race. Super team!
