Hellfire Winter

The 2005 Mountain Running season began on a clear cold Sunday , with the traditional race up the track to the infamous Hellfire club and then two laps aroound the top. The 80 or so runners included many new faces and some old faces moving into new categories.

IMRA really moved into the electronic age with Justin Keatinge's new computerized registration system , making the processing of the numerous yearly entries as simple as pushing a button.

But some things never change and John Brooks dashed away from the competition for a resounding win by well over a minute over a relative newcomer to mountain running in the very fast Philip Kilganon. A first time mountain runner Lorraine Manning, took the ladies prize ahead of the fast improving Aisling Coppinger. The soon to be 40 Laura McGinley was victorious in her first race as a ladies vet. John Farrelly of Rathfarnam took the vets prize and new super vet Kevin Grogan, had a handy victory over Maurice O'Hara who seems well back on form after a long injury layoff.

As always happens with computers (and first race without Nora at the finish) a few times and places may have been mixed up. This would be most likely between 27 and 43rd place and definitely with the 3 people listed as 84th place. If you have a proper time for any of these places please contact me at bruce.shenker@ imra.ie. Sorry for the problems, we will try to improve next time.
