Glasnamullan League race - Report by Douglas Barry
Flies? None.
Midges? There were millions of them! They hovered heavily over the plantation of new conifers that now lines the sides of this attractive race route, letting us know that the mountain view will soon be gone, and that there will be naught to remember in the coming years for the unfortunate start and finish officials other than the red pock marks left by future generations of midges.
Paul Nolan wasn't bothered by them - no flies on our Paul, let alone midges. He scored yet another win at a shortened Glasnamullan race that only went to the top of Djouce Mountain, rather than its customary additional foray to War Hill, and held off the challenge of Aonghus O'Cleirigh who comfortably took the first vet position. Eoin Keith took third ahead of John MacEnri.
In the women's race, Roisin McDonnell took an easy win in the absence of Joan Flanagan ahead of birthday girl Emma Sokell with Martina O'Kearney in 3rd. Jane Watt won the F50 category while Joe Feeney took the M50 category. The M60 fell to Sean Lambe and Mike Gomm racked up yet another win in the M70s.
Simon Fairmaner won the most bitten category. He did the start and finish - a brave, and lighter, man at the end!
