The Irish women’s team in the 40-44 age group took bronze medals at the World Masters championships in Poland. This team have a very successful history in terms of team medals and they kept the record going for another year with a very solid performance. Zoe Melling (Rathfarnham) led the team home in tenth position followed by Vanessa Sallier (Rathfarnham) in 12th and Joy Johnson (Sli Cualann) in 13th. In the M50 category Deon McNeilly (Newcastle) led the Irish team to seventh position supported by Eugene McCann (Newcastle) and Michael Gygax (Raheny Shamrock). The M60 team had an excellent debut in this age group when they finished fifth. The team was led home by Matthew Alexander (Coolquill).

Individually Martin McDonald was the highest placed finisher in fifth place in the M55 race. Iain Bailey (Newcastle) had an excellent run to finish tenth in the M35 race in a time of 45:04 which was the fastest run of the Irish group.
