Route Description:
Start is at 1920m and the finish is at an altitude of 4302m. Hence the climb is 2382m over 21 kilometres. The average gradient is 11%.

This is an extremely tough course at high altitude with a course record of 2:01:06 set by Matt Carpenter in 1993.

Categories: Senior men and senior women
Teams: Men & Women (fastest three times)

Selection basis: Open individual entry and international teams. Wicklow Way Ultra (March 27th) and 2009/2010 form. For selection, men are expected to be capable of running a road marathon in under 2 hours 40 minutes and women in under 3 hours 10 minutes. All selection is subject to the athlete being capable of finishing within 20% of the international race winners times. Only athletes who meet the criteria will be selected this means that full teams may not be sent.
