| Gerry Brady | Apr 22 2018, 9:09pm | Pierce O’Callaghan is compiling historical results for Athletics Ireland. He wants to include a list of Irish champions. I have made a provisional list below but had to calculate the results for 2000-2007 from the individual races so these need to be checked. For the 1980s and 1990s some resuLts are on the IMRA archive link but there is no indication of which races were Irish Championship races. John Lenihan won most years in the late 1980s and 1990s but finding the women’s champion is more problematical. Runners who were contending for the title should have a clear idea of who won each year. | Joe Lalor | Apr 23 2018, 5:01pm | Hi Gerry, I have a copy of every year's race calender since the start, if you wish to check what races took place. The results in the archive file on site I put up after collecting results from a many people as possible so would have paper copies of these. As you can see from the archive file there were many races where I have been unsuccessful in tracing results. Recently I have received a folder of old results from Paul Smith (thanks Paul) which I have not yet collated so there could be some more to add. |

It must have been a huge amount of work to compile and digitise and will increase further in value over time. It gives history to the Association. I would be very interested in making a summary table of the Irish championship races by year so that I can then check for results of those races in the archive. Let me know what the best way to do that is. One option would be to create jpeg files from them which could be posted into a new event entitled Race calendars etc. That would make them available to other persons as well. Someone on the Committee would have to create a new race event for this purpose. John Lenihan has agreeed to check with Majella Diskin to identify what years she was Irish champion in. Maike and Peter - apologies that you both lost Irish titles by virtue of your corrections! |

I have posted an updated work-in-progress list below which includes updates from John and Vivian. Does anyone know what happened in a year where no woman completed the required number of races? Please let me know if you spot errors in the list below (in the club name also as Pierce needs that).
