Follow the clearly defined rocky path up the open mountain. After about 3km, there is a Y-junction (just after a small stream crossing). Turn left here, heading straight across a bog to the Devil's Punch Bowl (670m). The top point of your route is visible across the lake in front of you. Turn left at the lake and go clockwise around the it, with a steep climb upwards as you keep the lake on your right. Follow the path around the top of the crag overlooking the lake, enjoying the panoramic views! The actual summit of the mountain (839m) is on your left. Keep going clockwise around the lake, descending towards the stream coming off the lake, and follow the path back down to where you started.
Getting There:
Mangerton, Killarney, Co. Kerry

Registration is at the race start. To get there, head out from Killarney on the Muckross Road (N71) and turn left directly after the Jarvey's Rest Pub (there's a signpost for Mangerton). Then take the next a right turn (also signposted) and park on the roadside of this cul-de-sac, just before a small concrete bridge.

Organisers Instructions:
Race registration will open from 12:00 to 12:45.

This race is open to all and the cost is €10. There is no pre-registration for this race.

If you have already run an IMRA race this year, please bring the race number given to you at that race as it is valid for the full year.

However, if this is your first IMRA race this year, you must purchase yearly IMRA membership for €10 per person. Please download the membership form, and fill it out beforehand to speed up registration (they will be available on the day too). You will then be given a race number that is used for other IMRA races this year.

Safety Kit Requirement
The following items should be brought to registration:

  • Rain jacket (see below)
  • Map and compass
  • Whistle
  • Food and water
  • Hat and gloves
The race director will decide, depending on conditions on the day, what kit must be carried. Under IMRA rules for competitors safety, it is mandatory to bring and carry a jacket that is shower and wind proof for the entire race. Any competitor seen not carrying or wearing their jacket at any stage in the race will be disqualified. There are no exceptions to this rule!

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
