The existing lug relay record is held by a team of orienteers who were CNOC members. While the race title is in safe hands, a team of CNOC juniors pulled off a convincing victory and gave indications that in years to come they may also wish to take the record!

Peter Kernan of AJAX orienteers led the first leg runners home in 89 minutes. Three runners were close behind in the form of Ronan Hartnett (Gardai), CNOC guest Niall Ewen and Setanta orienteer Tony Doolin. It was a leg where the orienteers won out in the thick mists on the mountains.

Fastest time on leg two fell to GEN orienteer David Healy who made up good ground. However it was CNOC who finished the leg ahead after an epic battle between junior Seamus OBoyle who gained ground on the descents only to lose it on the climbs to Adrian Tucker. Greg Byrne and Philip Brennan were close behind on fastest leg times.

Into leg three and Colm Hill held the lead the whole way for a 13 minutes win over evergreen Kevin Grogan. This pair had the fastest leg times followed by Moire OSullivan and Mike Long.

All in all a splendid return for an old event and signs are that it will stay firmly on future calendars. Thanks from the athletes who enjoyed themselves to our President, aka Chairman, Tony Kiernan for reviving and organising it. Thanks also to Liam ORiain who was at the start at 6 am, good man Liam!, to the man at the finish Mick Hanney, and to Brian Furey, Greg Byrne, Nora Lalor, Isabelle Lemee and other helpers on the day.
