Route Description:

Trial race location - Both trial races will start at the Education Centre beside upper lake at Glendalough. They will follow the same trail that loops up Camaderry with U17's runners having an earlier turnaround point. U17 course length is 4.7km, U20’s will be 6.7km Course is mostly fast on good ground but the last kilometre to the turning points is much rougher and CARE should be taken on this descent. .

Race Registration opens at 11am. Please ensure you all have the mandatory kit of rain jacket with you at all times during the race. Failure to carry this means disqualification. Registration will be in the Upper Lake car park at Glendalough.

You must have IMRA membership for 2023 to enter these trial race. Full details on obtaining IMRA membership is at this link on the website.

Mandatory kit: A rain jacket must be carried or worn for the trial races.

British and Irish Championships selection basis:

The first four qualifying athletes in the trial races in each category will be selected for the teams representing Ireland at the British and Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships, provided that the guideline selection times are achieved.

The Championships will be held in Peebles, Scotland on September 10th 2023.

Start times in Peebles 10.30am U17W (3.8km/180m) 11.00am U17M (3.8km/180m) 11.30am U20W (5.9km/275m) 12.15pm U20M (5.9km/275m)).

Mostly runnable wide grass paths; a few stony outcrops; possibly some short boggy bits if it’s wet pre-race. The steep climb to the main summit is off-path on rough grass.

Selection Target Times for the trial race will be:

  • Under 17 Boys/Girls (born 2007 and 2008): 4.7km and approx 250m climb: Boys – 25 mins, Girls – 28 mins
  • Under 20 Boys/Girls (born 2004, 2005 and 2006): 6.7km, approx 300m climb: Boys – 31mins Girls 39 mins

You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
