Organisers Instructions:

This year's Scarr race largely follows the route last raced on in 2023, with an extended descent along Scarr ridge to the Wicklow Way, turning for home via Brusher Gap Hut.

Starting on the new fire road, where the Wicklow Way turns at the top of Gaffney's Lane, the route rises gradually from the start, following the trail with forestry along the right hand side all the way around to the wall. We then have a steep climb on varied terrain (mostly single track through bracken, then heathers) to the main ridge of Scarr, rising 200 metres over a distance of 1 km (20% gradient).

The course then follows the wall clockwise around Scarr. Watch out for some wire on the ground in a few places alongside the wall.

There will be a marshall on the ridge at the end of the wall, where the main field will be directed to take a right hand turn into the steep final ascent to Scarr summit. From here it's the glorious descent along the ridge (heading south and then southeast) all the way to the Wicklow Way and then turning left to sprint past Brusher Gap Hut and over the finish line.

There will be an early start, heading off at 7pm and a junior course - part of the 2025 Junior League - with a start time of 7:40pm.

Please arrive early - registration will close at 7:15pm. Please sign in first, then collect your number, then proceed to the laptop desk to get your timing chip scanned and registered. Your number will be yours for the entire 2025 race year. Please retain for the year, it is your responsibility.

It is mandatory to carry or wear a showerproof jacket at all IMRA races. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the race.

Please make sure your number is clearly visible on the front of your chest. Do not wear it on your shorts, as it cannot be seen easily by the spotters. If you must use a race belt for your number, please ensure that it is facing frontwards when crossing the line.

If you cannot finish the race for any reason, please let a volunteer know. Otherwise we could be out on the mountain for a while looking for you. The Race Director can be contacted by calling the emergency phone number which is printed on the rear of your race number.

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
