Route Description:
Classic winter route although there will be a small change from the usual route this year. Start at the barrier as usual and proceed 1.3km up forest track. Turn left onto a bike trail. Emerge at a public road. Turn right and cross over. After 50m, turn left onto a bike trail. Follow markers and marshals around a large loop of Trooperstown Hill. On completion of this loop, return down the bike trail. Cross the public road and turn down the bike trail again. This time follow bike trails all the way down to the finish. The junior course will be an out and back route totally approx 4.5km. The junior race will start shortly after the main start.
Getting There:

Take the M50 Southbound, get off at the Roundwood exit (Kilmacanogue) and follow the signs towards Laragh, drive through Annamoe and follow the bend left. 1.5km further down (keep the River Inchavore on your left), you'll see a brown sign saying "Trooperstown", turn in here and follow the minor road to the car park at the river before the stone bridge. Parking is very tight and the road through the parking area is a public road, so please be careful. Grid ref for parking: T 158 969. CARPOOL: PLEASE carpool from Roundwood, there is on-road parking as you enter the village and some at the prize-giving location (Kavanagh's Roundwood). WARNING: Single occupancy cars may have to be directed to park in Laragh and jog to the registration / start (1.6km). Please follow Marshalls' directions at all times.

You should start the race at the specified gun-times, or choose a distance that suits your ability.

PLEASE PLEASE CAR POOL as much as possible from Roundwood, Kilmac, Laragh etc. And co-operate with the nice parking marshals :-).

--------------WE MUST CONSIDER OTHER USERS OF THE CARPARKS TO ENSURE PERMITTING OF FUTURE EVENTS.----------------

We will have to close registration in time for the laptop crew to set up at the start. So the registration queue will close at 10:45 sharp. Anyone not in the queue by that stage will not be allowed enter the race. So please turn up in good time! It's likely to be muddy and slippy up on the hill, so grippy shoes are recommended, flats will definitely put you at a disadvantage. And please keep in mind this race takes in more exposed open hillside than most of the other winter league races, so come prepared.

  • Please sign-in first, then collect your number (if it is your first race of 2024), then proceed to the laptop desk to get your chip registered and scanned.
  • Your chip is re-usable for this year and future years, please retain it for future races and future years.
  • Your number will be yours for the entire 2024 race year. Please retain it for the year, it is your responsibility.
  • Replacement number or chips will be charged at €5 and can be purchased online.
  • Please make your number clearly visible on the front of your chest. Do not wear it on your shorts, as it cannot be seen easily by the finish line spotters.
  • If you must use a race belt for your number, please ensure that it is facing frontwards when crossing the line.
  • Fix your timing chip on your shoe laces. Anywhere else and it will not register on the timing mat. Cable ties will be provided at the chip-desk.
  • If you cannot finish the race for any reason, please let a volunteer know. Otherwise we could be out on the mountain for a while looking for you.
  • The RD can be contacted using the emergency phone number on the rear of your race number.

Volunteers (Non-Running)

You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
